Abwaab is a learning platform reimagining how students across MENA study, practice, and prepare for success.

With 12 million downloads, over 500,000 subscriptions sold, and 1.5 billion minutes watched, Abwaab helps students in grades 7-12 master national curriculum content at their own pace affordably and accessible through short-form videos, assessments, and performance analytics.

The team brings deep operating and leadership experience from Uber and Careem, and a shared belief that access to quality education shouldn’t depend on geography or income.

We backed Abwaab despite inherent concerns we had internally over the challenges of EdTech, particularly monetization.

After deep engagement with the founders, we were drawn to their unique perspective on the digital education gap that existed in our region as well as their thoughtful and relentless approach to execution.

With the world’s largest school operator coming out of the region as well as several other very large players, it is inevitable for a leader to emerge on the digital front.

The team has maintained outstanding execution at critical moments. They aggressively pursued monetization in 2022 when the macro environment faced headwinds, and are building momentum on their AI-strategy in November 2022 when OpenAI took the world by storm, starting with internal efficiencies and now innovating in customer experience.

Speed of execution and connecting the dots have never been more important than it is today, and the Abwaab team reflects this.

Our conviction in the team and opportunity has only grown stronger – we have since scaled our position to become the largest shareholder in the business.
